School Concerts

The Sacconi Quartet are very experienced outreach workers, having worked for many years with organisations like the CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust and Live Music Now. Their workshops and projects involving schools have always been one of the most rewarding aspects of their work. Every year, around the time of the Sacconi Festival, the Sacconis visit many of the local schools to deliver their uniquely fun and inspiring workshops to encourage pupils and teachers alike to listen to more chamber music and music in general.

In 2012 the Quartet commissioned a musical play called ‘The String Thing’ by actor and cellist Matthew Sharp in which the children were treated to a boisterous tour through musical history, wigs and custard pies a plenty! In 2013 they staged a production of Britten’s Noye’s Fludde involving over 100 local schoolchildren, musicians and singers, conducted by Grenville Hancox. In May 2014, the Quartet commissioned a brand new string quartet by Stephen Deazley called ‘Folkestone Road’. This was then used as a base for a composition by local school children that was performed at the Festival.

The Sacconi Festival also works in partnership with the CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust to provide free tickets to the festival concerts for 8-25 year-olds.
