Sacconi Festival – Folkestone Young Strings

The orchestra will perform a selection of well-known classical favourites as well as popular film and musicals highlights to showcase what the orchestra has been learning over the last few months. Folkestone Young Strings is a string orchestra based in Folkestone, for young string players of school age living in Shepway and East Kent and learning a string instrument. Since september 2024, the orchestra has welcomed a flute player and a percussionist to join them to add special touches to the music they perform.

The concert will include excerpts from  Carmen by Bizet, Badinerie by Bach, Gavotte by Grieg, the theme tune to the Pink Panther, highlights from the Lion King, The Lord of the Rings suite, Ryan’s Polka from Titanic, ‘America’ from Bernstein’s West Side Story and more!

The local schools have been invited to bring youngsters to experience live music. It is an exciting way to introduce children to the joy of music making and hopefully will inspire some youngsters to take up an instrument and maybe even join the orchestra!
