The 2023 Sacconi Residency Weekend saw the quartet performing on the Old High Street, in the state rooms of The Grand, in Holy Trinity Church and the Punch & Judy Pub with vocalist and instrumentalist Richard Navarro, double-bass player Nicholas Thurston, local dancer Erendira and a host of local talented amateur musicians..
A Friday morning pop-up concert outside one of Folkestone’s favourite shops was followed in the evening by a plugged-in gig at the Punch Judy pub. In this free event, genre-busting vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Richard Navarro performed his beautiful original material with the Sacconi Quartet for the very first time. Together with Nicholas Thurston on guitar/double bass, the 6-strong group performed brand new arrangements of songs rich in melody and myth, set among landscapes of sea and sky. A very special meeting of sublime strings, beats and storytelling.
DANCES with STRINGS was a brand new and exciting event with live music from the Sacconi Quartet joined by local musicians Floriane Peycelon – violin, Kathy Shave – violin, Adrian Smith – viola and Julia Vohralik – cello. Local improvisational dancer Eréndira guided the audience through movement and dance in response to the music. It was great fun for all ages and abilities and set in the fabulous surroundings of the Great Rooms of The Grand!
