Young Strings Orchestra – Rehearsal Blog 29/3/22

Tuesday 29th March 2022

As today was the last rehearsal before the Easter Break, Ben, Rhian and I wanted to let everyone know how much we have enjoyed getting to know the young musicians in our brand new orchestra, and working with them since the beginning of February. We have now had 7 rehearsals during which we have learnt to get to know each other better as players and learn to play together. We welcomed our first cellist today and it was grand to hear the deep sound of the cello in our orchestra at last! Altogether there are now 10 regular members, and we really want to welcome more. So keep spreading the good word 🙂 This half term so far, we have been working on some famous tunes, easily recognisable by everyone, such as Birdsong from Vivaldi’s Spring, as well as less famous tunes by a very famous living composer, now resident of Folkestone, John Woolrich. Well done to all the soloists who are brave enough to have a go as being soloists in the Vivaldi and to all the young musicians who are new to ensemble playing.  We are now having a break for 2 weeks and rehearsals will resume on Tuesday 19^th April 2022 at 4.15pm in Block 67 Glassworks Studio, in The Glassworks building. 

We will continue with the repertoire we worked on for the last 7 sessions and will introduce one new piece to get us ready for our first performance on Saturday 21^st May 2022 in the Quarterhouse, at 10:15 am , as part of the Sacconi Festival Weekend. This is a very famous and well-attended series of concerts. It is a huge privilege for us to be part of this exciting festival. It will be great to invite all your friends and relatives to come and listen to us on that morning as well as come and listen to the professional players who will perform throughout the weekend.  Of course, a concert can only take place if enough players can participate. So please let us know whether you will be able to attend as soon as possible, and by 5^th April latest.
